Interactive Media Installation
Tag der offenen Tür - HfG Karlsruhe ZKM Karlsruhe
Interactive Table - Sensory Explorations
The exhibition presents a preview of works developed within the Hands-On Interactive Media and Installations seminar at HfG Karlsruhe, led by MK Vertretungsprofessor Simone Serlenga. The projects will later be presented in their complete form from February 12 to 14 as part of the small-scale end-of-semester exhibition.
Over the course of the semester, students engaged with artistic and technical strategies of interactive media and installations, investigating how visuals, interactive systems, light, and sound shape space, spatial experience, and audience perception.
The exhibited works include interactive video installations as well as software-based interactive pieces. A significant part of the presentation is shown on CRT analog monitors, combining contemporary digital technologies with analog display devices. This deliberate juxtaposition foregrounds questions of media materiality, perception, and the relationship between old and new technological forms.
Rather than treating interactivity as a purely functional feature, the works approach it as a conceptual and aesthetic strategy. Audience participation becomes a constitutive element of the installations, activating meaning through feedback loops between human presence, technical systems, and space. The exhibition reflects on interaction as a dynamic process in which control, authorship, and perception remain in constant negotiation.
